Switchboard Operator – Luxury Hotel


We are recruiting for a part-time Switchboard Operator (16 hours / 2 days per week) to provide a high standard of service to our guests, ensuring professional, efficient, and courteous communication at all times, in line with Forbes Five-Star standards and The Red Carnation Hotels standards.


Location: Cong, County Mayo, Ireland.

Employment type: Part-Time (16 hours / 2 days per week) (working days include some weekends and Bank Holidays).

Working pattern: 2 days per week, 8-hour shifts between 8:00am and 8:00pm.

Key responsibilities of the Switchboard Operator will include:

  • Answering all incoming telephone calls promptly and professionally, in accordance with hotel standards.
  • Dealing effectively with guest and internal enquiries, ensuring accurate message taking and immediate delivery to the relevant person.
  • Introducing callers correctly before transferring calls, using names wherever possible.
  • Maintaining a high level of product knowledge, including hotel facilities, prices, opening times, and in-house groups or events.
  • Posting dockets and restaurant/bar bills accurately and efficiently in line with SOPs.
  • Preparing key cards for group arrivals as required.
  • Monitoring and distributing faxes, post, and other correspondence.
  • Maintaining a neat, clean, and organised switchboard and reception support area.
  • Monitoring stationery supplies for the Reception department and ensuring adequate stock levels.
  • Supporting the Reception team when required, including crossing over during busy periods.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve departmental and hotel objectives.
  • Complying with all company policies, Red Carnation Top 12 Service Standards, and operational procedures.
  • Adhering to all Health & Safety, fire, and security regulations at all times.

  • Previous switchboard, reception, or hotel experience is an advantage.
